Nano 2009: Chaptor 7: Day 17

Jennifer stepped off the plane. Her stomach was still queasy from the ride. It was a small plane and didn't handle the turbulence very well.

“Are you doing ok?” Michael asked.

“I'm fine,” she replied. She forced herself to stand up straight. It was important she project strength. She knew Michael would respect that, and his respect might be useful in the future.

Two men were walking towards them. They both wore old worn out blue jeans and old baseball caps. The one on the right wore a white t-shirt with something written on it that Jennifer couldn't read from the distance. Jennifer expected him to be shivering, but as he got closer he seemed relax despite the cold breeze. A small amount of light brown hair shown just below his hat.

The other man had a red and black flannel button up shirt on, but was left unbutton. A dark t-shirt shown through the opening. He had a large amount of dark brown hair protruding from his hat. The hair on the back of his head almost reached his shoulders.

“Good evening,” Jennifer said, shaking each man's hand. “You must be Mr. Stevie,” she said when she shook the man on the right.

“Yes,” he replied. “How did you know?”

Jennifer smiled at him. “You look like a Stevie,” she replied. The man shook his head, but didn't reply otherwise. John and Michael introduced themselves. The group then headed towards the door.

“Do you know where these bastards are going to attack?” Stevie asked, as they walked across the runway.

“No, not really. Were thinking somewhere in this area, but to be honest we could be miles off,” Michael said.

“How are we going to fight back if we don't know for sure?” he asked. He opened the door to the airport for the rest of the group.

“John says he can track them. It should give us a bit of a head start. As far as advantages go, it an't much, but it an't nothing,” Michael said. “Besides, if we were sure that would get the military involve, and leave us out in the cold.”

“That is going to make it tough to plan,” Stevie said. “How much of a head start are we going to have?”

“A couple of hours. We do are planning right that should be plenty, God willing,” Michael said.

“God willing,” Stevie repeated as they walked out the airport. Stevie showed them the way to his truck.

“Can I assume your team is waiting for us?” Michael asked. “The quicker we get prepared, the better.”

“Their at the armory,” Stevie replied.

“Good,” Michael said. “We are light in the way of arms, for various reasons.” Good, Jennifer thought, he took my advice about not telling them why we were coming empty handed. She had assumed Stevie might check on them anyways, but there was no point in pushing the subject.

They all piled into the truck. It was an old beat up ford truck. Michael, John, and Stevie's companion had to ride in the back. Jennifer sat in the passenger seat, while Stevie drove. Everyone was completely silent. The truck was loud enough that nobody could carry a conversation.
